ShoreBank International Ltd.

ShoreBank International Ltd. (SBI), is the for-profit international advisory subsidiary of ShoreBank Corporation. ShoreBank International does not conduct banking operations but rather offers a broad range of advisory and financial services in its core communities of practice - small business finance, microfinance and housing finance.

SBI works with financial institutions (and their funders) that are growing their institutions with partial or total focus on financing entrepreneurial and housing investments in underbanked markets around the world. Service offerings range from implementation and capacity-building to strategic and transaction advisory services that leverage the experience of ShoreBank.

Operating on ShoreBank Corporation’s belief that a locally rooted regulated financial institution can be a catalyst for positive change in a community, SBI assists its clients in making local markets work more effectively for individuals and families with limited access to traditional financial sources.

SBI has worked in 74 developing and emerging economies, with banks, microfinance entities, credit unions, cooperatives, nongovernmental organizations and others that seek to reach entrepreneurs that are perceived to be too small, too risky or too new to interest conventional financial institutions. It emphasizes training and capacity building for lenders, managers and boards of partner institutions, and collaboration with local technical assistance providers to create a permanent, profitable local finance facility. ShoreBank Corporation established this consulting practice in 1988, which initially included both a U.S. and international focus, to share its operating experience in urban and rural economic environments, working with financial institutions globally to create greater access to capital for underserved clients and to generate economic wealth within target markets.  Currently, the company is focused exclusively on international mandates in emerging economies around the globe.

Laurie J. Spengler, President, is based in Chicago, and Lauren Moser Counts, Vice President, and Jesse C. Fripp, Vice President are based in Washington, D.C. These core offices support the company’s network of field operations located in Central and Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
