Chicago - On the city's South Side, more than 50 people are hard at work turning what was once a vacant eyesore into an attractive condominium complex.

This 12-unit building was slated for demolition until Andy Schcolnik's company, Ansco Construction LLC, bought it and put money into the structure's renovation. Imported South American granite, copper banisters and brick walls craft a warm, homey texture, and additional windows above the doors and windows fill each unit with bright, natural light.

The surrounding neighborhood is dotted with similar construction projects and new developments. Andy's renovations provide jobs and help create high-quality homes at reasonable prices. He also believes this type of construction can have a snowball effect on a neighborhood, encouraging further real estate and business development.

He initially came to ShoreBank because of its strong reputation among other local developers. The bank worked with him as he grew his real estate development business into a multi-project enterprise. He credits ShoreBank with understanding the unique needs of real estate investors, making decisions in a timely fashion and recognizing the vision behind his ventures.

ShoreBank believes residential real estate renovation is a key component in revitalizing a neighborhood, helping communities become places where people want to live. Investing in developers like Andy who transform distressed buildings into attractive and affordable housing is one way ShoreBank helps to improve the appearance and quality of the communities in which it works.
