Guanajuato, Mexico - When said together in Spanish, the letters V.O. sound like the word "veo", which means "I see." And helping people see is exactly what Grupo V.O., a cutting-edge new eye clinic, is doing in this central Mexican state.

As a surgeon at an eye care facility, Dr. Luis Alanis dreamed of owning a clinic where he could provide unique, state-of-the-art services. Fondo Capital Guanajuato (FOCAP), a fund capitalized by multilateral donors and private investors and managed by ShoreBank Advisory Services (SAS), helped him get the financing he needed to make it happen. The fund, along with a private backer, provided him with capital to buy the latest equipment and hire employees.

A year later, Grupo V.O. is at the forefront of laser eye surgery technology. Dr. Alanis uses the latest laser-assisted vision correction technology and equipment, which is more precise than other methods. Dr. Alanis also facilitates workshops to certify other ophthalmic surgeons to use the equipment and then rents it to them, making this procedure accessible to even more patients.

Located in a new, urban hospital, Grupo V.O. draws clients from all over the state of Guanajuato. Once a month the clinic provides free vision care services to low-income residents.

FOCAP specifically targets small and medium-sized businesses in the state of Guanajuato. Developing innovative new entities like FOCAP that invest in small businesses is one of the ways ShoreBank helps entrepreneurs around the world build wealth and provide new services to their communities.

SAS consultants have worked in more than 40 countries, all 50 states and most metropolitan areas in the United States. Internationally, SAS primarily focuses on small business and microfinance.
