Music and rejoicing spill from the tent set up in the parking lot down the street from Truth and Deliverance Christian Church as members gather for a revival. All along the block, there's another kind of revival going on. Pastor John T. Abercrombie has been working with ShoreBank to secure loans to renovate his church and breathe new life into the entire block.

The church, which sits on the site of a former car wash, has a beautiful new sanctuary and administrative offices. Dusty dirt parking lots have been paved, striped and fenced. Formerly vacant buildings are now occupied by a Christian bookstore and café, newly renovated apartments, street-level businesses and a spiritual exercise center. The block's transformation is also building wealth for Pastor Abercrombie's congregation; most of the businesses are run by church members.

As the nation's first and leading community development bank, ShoreBank is an innovator in providing banking services to faith-based organizations to expand their outreach to the community. Churches are often the anchor of urban neighborhoods, and those that provide gathering places, programs and activities for the community make a measurable difference for local residents. From providing a loan for a young minister to transform a dilapidated grocery into a beautiful church, to financing the creation of a day care adjacent to an established church, ShoreBank's faith-based banking services are changing the world.
